Home again, Home again, Jiggity-jog.

We're back home and we had a fun time! Sully earned a second place in his only class. First place went to Sully's foster mom and her lovely little boy, Carl. This being Sully's third leg of his Rally Advanced title, he put a new abbreviation after his name. He is now:

(That means he has his Companion Dog, Rally Advanced, Rally Level 2 (APDT) and Canine Good Citizen titles.)
After the show, we visited family in Wisconsin. Here we are in front of a cow, of course.

Before we left for our trip, I had the brilliant idea that it would be fun to go to garage sales in a different state! So on Saturday morning, we checked the paper and headed out! I got some neat stuff like vintage beaded fruit:

And these three aprons for cheap! I never find aprons so this was a super find!

The one on the left is commercially made and has a tag that says "WISCONSIN HOME CRAFTERS" so it's also a souvenir!

An Eerie Vacation

A week or so ago, we enjoyed a week off (Mike took a week and a half, the layabout!) and took a trip to Ohio! We stayed at the Quaker Square Inn, ate oatmeal every morning and slept in a silo! We cruised Lake Eerie, enjoyed a train ride in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and made a trip to Toys Time Forgot. I spent quite a bit of the car time knitting and crocheting my county fair projects.

Lately I have been making:
A fall outfit for my Jenny Doll to enter in the 'doll outfit' catagory
Thread crochet doily from a 1942 pattern book, in size 30 thread (TINY)
Knitted snowflake dishcloth that just didn't quite turn out like I wanted
Hoe cakes! Yum with maple syrup! (re-reading Little House on the Prairie books and getting strange cravings)
Crockpot Chocolate fudge cake
Sweet and Sour Faux Meatballs
Yo-yo quilt table runner that is shaping up nicely!

Weekend in Review

We are back from our long weekend of dog show and visiting family. Here's the breakdown:

Thursday:
Drive up-fine until terrible, dead-stop traffic due to an accident on 294 or somewhere thereabouts

First destination-Hotel where the dog show was being held. Awesome welcome goody bag with tons of dog food samples, a free Frontline Plus application(awesome!), food, toiletries, a leash, an ice cream scoop, giant bag clips for dog food bags, bandanna, dog toys, and more!

Small incident with the crate when Mike and I were at hospitality party, Sully has minor freak-out and busts through mesh door of soft-sided crate. Emergency trip to Target for shoelaces to lace mesh back together. Not a problem since. Mike has head cold so we pick up Sudafed (the good kind) while at Target. Bed is extremely hard.

Friday:
Dog Show-Sully gets his first leg toward CD title (1st place), first leg toward RA title (2nd place) and a 1st place in Rally Novice B. (See pic of loot.) Very happy!

Shopping at Mitsuwa-Grocery list includes: Panko breadcrumbs, fresh pastries shaped like crabs and pumpkins, Rement miniature sets!!!, much Japanese candy and tiny bento box paper cups

Bed is still very hard.

Saturday:
We discover a nail in our tire, Mike very nicely offers to sit at Walmart getting it patched while I watch tv and pack up.

Drive was scenic and much more exciting than our normal route to WI!

Next destination-Hotel in WI, bed is much improved! Room has two fireplaces, but no real fire in either.

Dinner with in-laws goes well. Sully meets three new dogs and hangs with them fairly peaceably.

Jenna now has Mike's headcold but has softer bed to recuperate in. Herbal tea, whirlpool bath, soft tissues help too.

Sunday:
Ate in a mine shaft-themed restaurant for lunch.

Dinner at in-laws, dogs behave, things are good. Nice to relax, no to-do lists, no email, no phone.

Today:
Long drive home, 6 hours as usual but seemed longer because the drive up was broken into two relatively equal chunks.

Goodwill, scored a skirt for my Halloween costume and a new (to me) wool coat. I can't stand to pay $50 or more dollars for a coat when I can get one every year or so at Goodwill for $6!

Road Trip-Effingham

We enjoy going on little day trips to nearby towns. Today we decided to venture out to Effingham to check out a flea market. The flea market was bizarre. It was in a mini storage-type building and each vendor rented out a "garage" in which to keep and display their items. There was a LOT of cheap Big-Lots type figurines, several booths with tools (you know, the old rusty hang-on-the-wall kind, not the useful kind) and in general, a TON of junk. But there was one booth that had a WALL of pyrex in every color and pattern imaginable! If I hadn't just gotten some vintage pieces for my birthday, I would have been more tempted to buy some. I did buy a turkey planter for my turkey collection, a couple of Little Golden books (to cut up for the pictures to make greeting cards) and some awesome fabric covered boxes shaped like books. They are going to be my new stationary station! I need a new place to keep all the stickers, cards and paper and these can also function as a portable writing desk when closed up!
