Apronful post!

This is one post chock full of apron content! I finished this apron tonight. It's is from the Susan Branch pattern you can find free here!

I think the pattern is really simple but there is a ton of small seam binding and I'm not too fond of that stuff, especially trying to catch both layers of fabric while sewing in on! But the apron is really fun and really flattering for fuller figures!

In other apron news, I got my Valentine's mini aprons swap package! This was a swap held on the Mary Jane's Farm forum. All those little aprons, so cute!!

And in non-apron news, today's project besides the apron was to recover my garage sale find vintage Cosco step stool chair. It had yucky dark green vinyl that was ripped and taped back together. Is this fabric vintage or anywhere near the original? No. But it sure does go with my new laundry room color scheme!

No, not Vacation Bible School Stories, though I do have quite a few of those having attended a variety of different church's programs throughout the years.
No, VBSS stand for

This weekend was a very productive weekend and made me feel like I am just about done with the little projects that needed doing to make this house a functional home. This post, in the style of Bossy will illustrate just how productive we were!

First off, we made a trip to Home Depot and picked up a new tank float assembly to fix the toilet in the big bathroom. Which you had to open the lid to and manually lift to get it to shut off. Now it's got the new-fangled donut-shaped float and works like a dream! I love you big bathroom toilet!

Mike ordered a table from Target to serve as a computer desk in his office. We put it together and it looks great. But here's a little note for him-this table and chair combo is not a functional desk space, the table is TOO HIGH, the chair is TOO LOW.

Then I added knobs to the laundry room cabinet drawers. Knobs that I've had for over a year that I picked up free from a coworker and kept around "just in case" which led my husband to ponder who has a bag of brass knobs hanging around "just in case"? Me. And look how handy they came in! Why didn't these drawers have knobs? I have no idea!

I ordered a collar kit and extra hardware from Creative Design Works last week and over the weekend I tried it out and made Sully a new spring collar. I loved the kit, the instruction were easy to follow (for the most part) and the hardware is high quality! Mike says Sully just needs a big bow and he would look like an Easter decoration.

I also did laundry and dusted and swept per my lessons at The Helpful Housewife. I'm taking Housekeeping 101 in hopes of keeping this house nice and tidy!

As a last minute project, I removed the last of the wallpaper borders. Borders were only left in the two bathrooms so I got out my gel wallpaper remover that had been so helpful in the other rooms and set to work. Goodbye lacy flowers. Goodbye rose bouquets!

We're almost out of boxes!

Sully loves carpet

Here's Sully enjoying our carpet! He's never had carpet before! He loves to crawl across it dragging his back legs like a wounded soldier. And face-scoot all over it in classic corgi style.

And a new giveaway to post about! Win a Montessori by Hand apron pattern over at Apronista!

Curmudgeonly goodness

Inspired by my pal Drewzel, who was inspired by other truly classy blogger, I am posting a list of things that really cheese me off. Feel free to follow suit as this is one of the more awesome memes I've seen. :)

1. Moms who complain about being moms. I don't want to get to anatomical here but no one FORCED you to preform the act that produced your offspring. You CHOSE to, and in that choice you accepted the consequences. Don't bitch about it everyday like it was something thrust upon you like some horrible cross to bear!

2. People on celphones. I don't have a celphone. I hope I am never ever required to get a cel phone for work. Your conversation is not so important that it could not wait an hour or two for your alone at home time. That push-to-talk beep-beep noise really gets me going! I will snap your cel phone in half! Slow your life down just a skosche.

3. When the cover photo of a magazine (Woman's Day, I'm looking at you!) is a lovely dessert and you turn to the recipe page and it says 1 box yellow cake mix, 1 container chocolate buttercream frosting, prepare as package directs. That is NOT a recipe! Maybe for a quick cooking article, but for the cover photo, please get a little creative and give us a real recipe!!

4. Salespeople. I know your deal, you earn commission. Just give me your card when I walk in and I will call on you if I need anything while I'm in the store. But don't get offended if I don't keep coming back and asking for you, especially if you didn't do anything for me the first time. You need to earn my loyalty, not just expect it. And if you keep bothering me, I certainly will NOT call on you to help me, I will mysteriously forget your name and ask for someone else!

5. Proselytizing. The arrogance!

6. Hidden meat ingredients in packaged foods. As if the tiny amount of chicken fat in Stovetop stuffing mix makes that much flavor difference. Just leave it out!

7. Weddings! I hate weddings, I should have made this number 1! What a waste of money, and the ridiculous time and energy people spend one this, just ONE DAY of their lives. If they spent that much time and energy on every other day of their married lives there would be a sharp cut in the number of divorces.

8. Puppy mills and pet shops that sell puppies. We recently had a puppy store open up in our town and it is disheartening to see the numbers of puppies they sell and the number of people in our community that are completely oblivious to the fact that these puppies came from what are basically farms that produce dogs instead of cattle or chickens. Disgusting.

9. Trash. Not in a save-the-earth, eco-friendly sort of way, I just hate seeing it. Especially when it's the little things like tissues and candy wrappers that pile up on the coffee table while I'm not looking. It's a never ending job to pick up trash!

10. Here's one from Sully-Road Salt. Boy does that stuff sting! It makes me all hobbly and mom called me hop-a-long, but then she wipes off my paws so I can walk again. And I have to get my paws waxed before our walks to try and repel it, and I don't really like the wax, it's kind of annoying and sticky.

11. People who are consistently late/no show/do not fulfill commitments. The world runs smoothly when people just do what they say they will and what they are supposed to do. It grinds to a halt when people are late and that really annoys me!

12. Mainstream chain restaurants with no vegetarian option. You may be a seafood place or a steak place but you will have, at some point, a vegetarian person who is forced to eat at you and could you please just offer an entre-sized salad that does not have 4 pounds of meat on it? Or even a quick pasta dish without shrimp or chicken? I don't care if it's frozen and 5 months old, just keep something on hand for those occasions!

13. People who only participate in things for the ribbons/recognition. Mainly this pertains to dog show people, but also 4-H kids and people who volunteer only to get noticed. I'm not saying I don't like winning, it makes your hard work really worth it, but I also just like competing and trying my hardest and the whole process of training and preparing and competing. Meeting new people, trying new things. I'm not out there to make some sort of name for myself in the dog show world, I'm just out there to have something to do with my dog and be proud of ourselves!

I'm stopping at 13 because I was born on the 13th (of March, which is coming up here soon!) and because I need to get some work done! Do you agree with any of these? Do you hate me now? Please dish!

Longing for Spring

Originally uploaded by Corgipants
Today I got my first pang of cabin fever. It's cold here! And I have been content to curl up and soak up some tv and unpack a few boxes. But last night I made a big batch of peanut butter dog treats and got a hankering to put up the jumps in our new BIG backyard and start some training! Then today I watched videos of this little girl and I wanted even more to get out there with my guy and start having fun! So we did some indoor practice, we have a nice l-pattern area in our living room for some rally work. But I can't wait until its warm enough to set up a whole course in the backyard and still have space left over! Our first show is in May and we are scaling back our show schedule this year but we sure will have fun at home!

More love to spread

We've done it! We're moved in! All of our belongings are now at our new house and I've even got the kitchen mostly unpacked. The cat and dog are adjusting nicely. Sully LOVES his new big backyard but so far we've had snow, fog and rain, not exactly prime playing-outside weather. We have been welcomed to the new neighborhood with cookies and warm greetings! All that's left is to unpack and settle in!

The Bloggy Giveaway is over. Can you believe I didn't win anything? It is always fun though, traveling around to everyone's blogs. Sure could have used a giftcard to Lowe's or Walmart for all the little details around the house! But here are two other giveaways I happened upon: I lvoe A Year at Oak Cottage and she's having a little V-Day giveaway. And The Written Word's got a book to give away. Last night, with the fog and cold, I wanted to curl up on the sofa with a book or even a magazine. But they're all still packed!!

Successful closing on Tuesday leads to frenzied packing, driving and unpacking! This is moving weekend! And we are knee deep in a blizzard! I'm sorry, not a blizzard, a winter storm! We know how to pick 'em. We have most of the boxes and small things moved, now just the stragglers and the large furniture. We have to be out of this house by Saturday afternoon so that our subletters can move in! It will all get done because it has to get done. I expect to be full engrossed in unpacking Saturday night. First item to unpack: cocoa packets!!
